Special Events
While the legal arguments happen in the courtroom, the heart of the National High School Mock Trial Championship lives in the connections made between rounds. We have curated a schedule of events designed to help you recharge and celebrate in Des Moines. Meet peers at the traditional Pin Exchange, then head to our Friday at the Fair event for a taste of local culture. The weekend culminates in the Awards Celebration to honor your dedication to mock trial.
A 2026 NHSMTC All-Access Pass is required to attend these events. Competing students, up to two team coaches, judges, and volunteers are granted free admittance. Non-competing students and additional coaches will be considered Observers without the purchase of an All-Access Pass (sold out).
Transportation during the 2026 NHSMTC will be limited to Thursday service between the Downtown Des Moines Marriott and Drake University. Outside of that window, participants are responsible for their own travel. We recommend reviewing the Downtown DSM Map (linked below) to plan your routes in advance, including use of the extensive downtown skywalk system, which provides a convenient way to navigate between many hotels, restaurants, and key locations.
Pin Exchange
The Pin Exchange is a beloved NHSMTC tradition and the ultimate icebreaker for the competition. This high-energy event allows you to meet fellow advocates from every corner of the country as you trade unique pins representing your home state or territory. It is more than just a souvenir hunt; it is your chance to build friendships and network with the people you will be facing across the aisle. Bring your collection and get ready to mingle.
Friday at the Fair
Step right up to Friday at the Fair! Since Iowa is famous for its state fair, we are bringing the midway to you with a menu of iconic treats. It is the perfect atmosphere to relax and enjoy one of Iowa’s most celebrated culinary traditions.
Awards Ceremony
After months of preparation and a weekend of intense litigation, it is time to trade your suits for a more relaxed atmosphere. The Awards Celebration is our final gathering to honor the exceptional talent displayed throughout the tournament. We will recognize outstanding individual performances, announce team rankings, and celebrate the spirit of mock trial. Join us for an evening of well-deserved recognition as we close out the 2026 championship with style and community.
